Shipping policy

Processing & Tracking

  • We ship from our certified organic and certified gluten-free bakery in Northern California.
  • We primarily use UPS. For Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico, we use USPS Priority Mail.
  • Our bread ships fresh frozen to preserve quality. Upon receipt, please refrigerate or re-freeze.
  • Please allow 1–2 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) for order processing. We ship Monday through Wednesday to prevent weekend carrier delays and ensure product freshness.
  • You will receive an order confirmation email immediately after placing your order. If you don’t see it, please check your spam folder or contact us at support@grindstonebakery.com.
  • When your order ships, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number to follow your package.
  • If you haven’t received a shipping confirmation within 3 business days of your order, please contact us at support@grindstonebakery.com with your name and order number.
  • Once a tracking number has been issued, we are unable to make changes or cancel the order.
  • Please ensure your shipping address is accurate before placing your order. Grindstone Bakery is not responsible for delays, misdeliveries, or additional shipping costs resulting from incorrect or incomplete addresses.
  • Grindstone Bakery is not responsible for packages that are lost, stolen, or misdelivered after carrier confirmation of delivery. If this occurs, please contact the carrier directly to initiate a trace or file a claim.

Shipping Rates & Free Shipping

General Shipping Terms
  • Shipping options available for your location will be displayed at checkout.
  • We do not mark up shipping charges or add handling fees.
  • We work hard to provide the lowest possible shipping cost for every order.
  • Shipping times and costs depend on your location and selected service.
  • We are not responsible for carrier delays once an order has shipped.
Order Sizes & Free Shipping
  • We offer orders of 1, 2, 4, 8, or 12 loaves.
  • 1- and 2-loaf orders allow new customers to try our products or accommodate customers with limited freezer space; these orders include a shipping charge at our actual cost.
  • Orders of 4 loaves or more qualify for free standard shipping (UPS Ground within the contiguous U.S.).
  • Grouping larger orders in multiples of 4 creates efficiencies that allow us to offer this free shipping benefit.
  • Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico do not qualify for free standard shipping; however, a shipping offset credit is applied — see below.

Regional Shipping Services

Western United States

Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming

  • We use UPS Ground for the best value and reliability.
  • Typical transit time: 1–3 business days.
  • Because of the short transit time, expedited shipping is not usually necessary.
  • Tracking service is included.
  • For special delivery needs, email support@grindstonebakery.com.
Central, Eastern, & Southern United States
  • We use UPS Ground for best overall value; typical transit time is 4–5 business days.
  • UPS 3 Day Select is also available at checkout.
    • If your order qualifies for free standard shipping, a credit equal to that value is automatically applied toward the cost of expedited service.
  • Tracking service is included.

Alaska, Hawaii, & Puerto Rico
  • We ship via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate, typically 3–5 business days.
  • Each Medium Flat Rate Box can hold up to 4 loaves.
    • The cost to ship 1 or 2 loaves is the same as shipping 4, so ordering 4 loaves offers the best value.
  • For 4-loaf orders and larger, we apply a credit equal to the standard shipping value in the contiguous U.S.
  • Orders for 8 or 12 loaves will arrive in multiple boxes (split shipments).
  • Tracking service is included.

In-Bakery Pickup

  • We are not currently set up for local pickup at the bakery.

Order Cancellations

  • Orders may be modified or canceled until a shipping label has been created by emailing support@grindstonebakery.com.
  • Once a tracking number is issued, orders are no longer eligible for cancellation or changes.

Returns & Refunds

  • Because our products are perishable, we are unable to accept returns once an order has shipped.

  • Your satisfaction is important to us — if there’s an issue with your order, please reach out so we can help.

Additional Information

  • Around major holidays, we may briefly hold shipments to avoid carrier slowdowns and make sure your bread arrives fresh — not sitting in a warehouse over a long weekend.
